ROCHESTER -- Three Batavia-based groups will participate in this weekends Drum Corps Association Championships.
The Ghost Riders Mini Drum Corps will compete Friday, followed by the debut of "The Edge of Empire," a drum corps-inspired production being put together this week in Batavia by a creative team that includes Batavia native and trumpeter Joey Pero.
On Sunday, the Mighty St. Joe's Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps from Batavia performs as part of an Alumni "Spectacular."
The Ghost Riders Mini Drum Corps is one of eight units competing for the DCA Mini Corps Championship at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, 123 Main St.
Admission to Friday's performances are free. Ghost Riders are scheduled to perform about 9:55 p.m., the seventh group to play.
"Edge of Empire," which features the music of such Las Vegas icons as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and Cher, along with contemporary music stars such as Lady Gaga, goes on at 10:25 at the conclusion of the competition. The performance, part of which was previewed Tuesday at Jackson Square in Batavia, will include costumes and visuals. Al Chez, a trumpeter from David Letterman's "Late Night" orchestra is also scheduled to join the production.
The Mini Corps championship begins at 8:15 p.m. An individual and ensemble contest begins at 6 p.m.
Performances continue at 2 p.m. Saturday with the World Championship Preliminaries at Sahlen's Stadium, 460 Oak St. Tickets, which cost $27, are available by calling (888) 300-6910 and online at www.dcacorps.org .
Eleven alumni corps, including the Mighty St. Joe's Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps from Batavia, will present field performances beginning 10 a.m. Sunday at Sahlen's Stadium.
Other groups include the Freelancers from Sacramento, Calif., Crusaders from Boston, Reilly Raiders from Philadelphia, Park City Pride from Bridgeport, Conn., and two groups each from Ontario , New Jersey, and New York, including Bugles Across America from Rochester.

The DCA World Championship finals are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Stadium. The top 10 Open Class corps, and top four Class A corps from the preliminrary competitions will seek the title.
