ALBION — The Orleans County Courthouse was closed Monday following an infestation of fleas, the New York State Unified Court System said.

The Orleans Supreme, County and Surrogate Courts will remain closed Tuesday, with Family Court matters shifting to the Albion Village Hall, 35-37 East Bank St.

According to UCS District Executive Andrew Isenberg, remediation work began Monday  against an infestation found throughout the courthouse.

Both the courtroom and courthouse offices were vacated to accommodate the project, which Isenberg said should be completed before any additional cancellations are needed.

“Orleans County officials are working extremely diligently to remedy the issue,” Isenberg said. “We’re optimistic that by Wednesday morning we will resume regular courthouse operations.”

Rescheduled court dates for matters that were to take place Monday and Tuesday have not been set, the Orleans County District Attorney’s office said.

Affected parties have been directed to go to the village hall or call the village offices at 585-589-9176.
