A two-car accident that occurred about 3 p.m. on the Genesee County section of the Thruway shut down both westbound lanes of the highway for a brief time.

No one was injured in the crash, which occurred just west of Exit 48 in Batavia, but it did cause a traffic backup of about 2.5 miles, according to state police.

Motorists were able to drive on the right shoulder of the road to get around the vehicles involved in the accident. Both lanes of the Thruway re-opened after about 30 minutes, according to state police.

A handful of other minor accidents occurred Sunday in Genesee and Wyoming counties when a light snow fell throughout the area, police dispatchers reported.

There were no serious injuries, dispatchers said.

Snow fell intermittently and in varying amounts in Genesee, Wyoming and Orleans counties.

Batavia and Albion received a light coating of the white stuff, with little or no accumulation on the roads. Warsaw got a dusting of snow.
