PERRY – Lauren West, a student at Perry High School, is showcasing work she completed as part of a mentorship with professional artist Nancy Stoddard in a new exhibition at the Arts Council for Wyoming County, 31 South Main St.

“A Walk in the Woods” is on view through June 25.

Lauren received the ACWC Creekside Fabrics Visual Arts Scholarship in 2021, which allowed her to spend a year studying with a professional artist. The exhibit features paintings created by West during that year.

Stoddard is a painter who often paints en plein air, or in the outdoors. Stoddard’s painting “Bluebells of Geneseo” was among the featured works in a 2015 art auction to benefit the Genesee Valley Conservancy. The painting was created during the Conservancy’s 2015 bluebell walk on Nations Road.

One of Lauren’s exhibition piece is called “Nations Road.”

Lauren was the 8th recipient of the ACWC & Creekside Fabrics Visual Arts Scholarship for Young Artists.

The ACWC & Creekside Fabrics Visual Arts Scholarship, now in its ninth year, is made possible through a partnership between the ACWC and Creekside Fabrics in Arcade. It is awarded annually to one high school student who wishes to further their studies in visual arts, including painting, photography, fiber arts, ceramics, and carpentry. Valued at $900, the scholarship encompasses a year-long apprenticeship to one or more fine arts or crafts local masters in the discipline selected by the student.

Lauren’s scholarship has culminated with this solo exhibition.
