ALBANY — New York’s egg production has increased compared to the same time last year, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.

New York egg production totaled 149.9 million during March 2021, up 3 percent from last year. The total number of layers during March 2021 averaged 5.82 million, up 3.6 percent from last year.

March egg production per 100 layers was 2,577 eggs, down 0.5 percent from March 2020.

How did other nearby states compare?

n Pennsylvania egg production totaled 780.3 million during March 2021, down 1.5 percent from last year. Production included 756.7 million table eggs, and 23.6 million hatching eggs. The total number of layers during March 2021 averaged about 30.3 million, down 2.7 percent from last year. March egg production per 100 layers was 2,576 eggs, up 1.3 percent from March 2020.

n Maryland egg production totaled 64.3 million during March 2021, down 5.4percent from last year. Production included 63.1 million table eggs, and 1.2 million hatching eggs.

The total number of layers during March 2021 averaged 2.52 million, down 5.3 percent from last year. March egg production per 100 layers was 2,549 eggs, down 0.1 percent from March 2020.
