ARCADE — Village electric customers are being advised of a scam.
Outside parties may be falsely representing themselves as acting on behalf of the Village of Arcade, claiming customers are due a refund on their utility bill, village officials said.
The Village of Arcade does not work through a third party to handle overpayments on any utility bill. If a customer has overpaid, it will show as a credit on their next bill.
If a person receives such a call, they’re asked to write down the name and phone number of anybody they suspect is not a village employee. They’re then asked to immediately call the village office or call the police.
If the call occurs after normal working hours, the village’s answering service will contact the proper village personnel.
The village office does not make utility billing related calls after normal working hours. The Village of Arcade Electric Department does not use email or texts to contact customers.
