COVINGTON — A Batavia man faces numerous drug charges after he crashed into a telephone pole and multiple road signs early Wednesday morning, Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies were called to Route 19 and Court Road just before 7 a.m. for a report of a car that had sheared off a pole.

The driver, Jason W. Whitehead Jr., 22, of Batavia was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy east when he lost control of the car on a curve at Court Road.

Whitehead was found in possession of cocaine and marijuana, had a non-driver identification card with an active suspension, Sgt. Colin Reagan said.

A drug recognition expert found Whitehead was high by “multiple categories of drugs.”

Whitehead was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of marijuana, driving while impaired by drugs, driving while impaired by a combination of drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation, unlicensed operation and moving from a lane unsafely.

He was charged Thursday with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after the owner of the car told police that Whitehead did not have permission to use the car.

A passenger in his car, Dakota E. Woodruff, 20, of Olean was turned over to Erie County deputies on a felony warrant.
