Hospice of Orleans will now be known as Supportive Care of Orleans.
The name change was announced by CEO Kellie Spychalski during a Thursday afternoon Facebook Live video, saying the organization believes this change is the next logical step in delivering its care to more people as its services have expanded and grown with the needs of the community.
“We believe that our new logo shows the strength of our organization, the diversity of the people we serve, our staff and our programs, as well as the beauty and comfort of the programs we serve and the people we provide them to,” she said.
The name hospice was removed from the name, Spychalski said, due to research in the community and review of national data that shows using the word hospice can be a barrier to important conversations and is often misunderstood term leading some families only to call them in the last few days of a loved one’s terminal illness. Introduction of hospice services much earlier in the disease process results in better outcomes for the patient and their loved ones, as well as a better quality of life.
Supportive Care of Orleans also has a new website at www.supportivecareorleans.org.
