Woman indicted for assaulting toddler

A city woman convicted of assaulting her child two years ago has been arrested after she allegedly assaulting the child again during a visitation, city police said.

Niasia S. Jiggetts, 30, was charged with two counts of felony criminal contempt of court and endangering the welfare of a child.

Detective Jason Ivison and Child Protective Services conducted an investigation that revealed Jiggetts caused an injury to the 7-year-old during a visitation.

Jiggetts was previously convicted of violating an order of protection in March.

She also is on probation for an assault conviction.

Jiggetts was arrested in September 2019 and charged with two counts of assault. She was accused of assaulting the child when he was 3 in 2017 and again in June 2019 when she hit him with an object.

Jiggetts was arraigned on the new charges and committed to jail with bail set at $1,000.
