BATAVIA — Police are asking residents to keep their vehicles locked at all times after a search Monday night for a man reportedly going into unsecured vehicles on Lewis Avenue.

“We did handle a call in which a white male was observed going through unsecured vehicles ...” said Detective Eric Hill. “The resident, who observed the male going through his vehicle, attempted to stop the man, but he was able to run away. The resident did obtain a minor cut to his arm during the struggle. He denied any medical assistance.”

“Patrols conducted an immediate search of the area, but the suspect was not observed. Patrols continued to look for the individual throughout their tour,” Hill said. “The person was described as a white male, wearing a red T-shirt, cargo shorts, red sneakers and carrying a green backpack.”
