Fatal crash driver gets jail


BATAVIA — A Canadian man was sentenced Wednesday in Genesee County Court to a year in jail for a February 2019 DWI crash that killed one of his passengers.

Andray P. Bair, 22, will serve the sentence in Genesee County Jail.

Judge Charles Zambito also ordered Bair to pay $22,000 in restitution.

Bair pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide for the Feb. 24, 2019 crash in Le Roy.

Bair, of Thorold, Ontario was driving on Route 19 about 3:30 a.m. when his car left the road and slammed into a house at 79 Clay St. in the village.

Handel Jamal Love, 22, also of Thorold, was killed. Bair and a passenger suffered serious injuries.

Bair was arrested upon his released from the hospital. He had been charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, first-degree vehicular assault, both felonies punishable by up to seven years in prison, and misdemeanor DWI and driving with a blood-alcohol content of more than .08 percent. He also was charged with speed not reasonable and failure to keep right.

Those charges were dismissed as part of the plea to vehicular homicide.
