Crash yields vehicular assault charge

SHELBY — A Medina man has been charged with second-degree vehicular assault after a Friday night accident which seriously injured his passenger, state police said.

Randy A Wright, 27, was eastbound at 11:45 p.m. on Martin Road when his Dodge Dakota left the highway and struck several trees, troopers said.

A 22-year-old backseat passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital, troopers said. Wright allegedly showed signs of impairment.

Besides the vehicular assault charge, Wright was charged with DWI, unlawful possession of marijuana, and traffic infractions.

The state police Collision Reconstruction Unit assisted the investigation, which troopers said is continuing.
