ALBION — The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office will join forces with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to enforce the U Drive. U Text. U Pay. Campaign.
The campaign runs today to Monday.
A total of 3,142 people were killed nationwide in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2019, deputies said. Texting while driving has become an especially problematic trend among younger drivers.
A total of 9 percent of people killed in teen driving crashes died when the teen drivers were distracted at the time of the crash, deputies said Texting while driving is an illegal behavior which can result in tickets and fines.
