COVINGTON — A Hunt man faces numerous drug and other charges after he was stopped for speeding 74 in a 55 mph zone on Route 246 Thursday, Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies said.

Salvatore P. Scarlata, 36, was found to have a suspended license for failure to pay child support, Sgt. Colin Reagan said.

He was also allegedly found in possession of what was suspected to be fentanyl, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

He was charged with driving while impaired by drugs, driving while impaired by a combination of drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation, speeding, no inspection, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, criminal use of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of marijuana.

He also is wanted in Genesee County for criminal contempt of court.

STAFFORD — A Batavia woman faces charges after a Genesee County sheriff’s patrol car’s license plate reader alerted the deputy that the woman’s car had stolen plates Friday.

Katherine J. Briggs, 41, of South Main Street was stopped just before 1 p.m. on Route 33.

The plates had been reported stolen from Erie County.

Briggs was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and switched plates.

BATAVIA — Shawn P. Wolcott, 38, of South Main Street was charged Saturday with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon Genesee County sheriff’s deputies said.

He is accused of using a knife to threaten another person.

BATAVIA — Two men were charged with criminal trespassing for being at Citgo gas station on Park Road after having been banned from the store, Genesee County sheriff’s deputies said.

Benjamin G. Evans IV., 32, of Federal Drive and Joey A. Evans, 30, of State Street are to appear Dec. 17 in City Court.

BATAVIA — A week after city police warned that counterfeit money was circulating in the area, an arrest has been made in a case from a month ago.

Genesee County sheriff’s deputies charged Lawrence D. Williams Sr., 60, of Ross Street with passing fake money at a store on Veterans Memorial Drive on Oct. 4.

Williams was charged Thursday with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

STAFFORD — Salvatore P. Scarlata, 36, of the town of Sweden was charged with criminal contempt of court, Genesee County sheriff’s deputies said.

He was wanted on a warrant stemming from an Oct. 10 incident on Route 5 where he violated an order of protection and fled before police could arrive.

WARSAW — Raymond Jemison, 38, of Cheektowaga was jailed after a traffic stop with a woman passenger who had a court order of protection against him, Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies said.

Jemison was stopped for speeding 58 in a 30 mph zone on Route 20A and found to have 13 active suspensions on his license.

He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, criminal contempt of court and aggravated family offense. He was jailed without bail.

BATAVIA — A traffic stop on Saturday resulted in charges against a Byron man, city police said.

Justin D. McQuillen, 32, of Freeman Rd. was stopped on Oak Street, police said. He was charged with DWI, driving with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or more, and speeding.

BATAVIA — A Byron man was taken into custody Oct. 16 on a warrant, city police said.

Walter T. Snell, 32, of Byron Holley Road was arraigned and released on his own recognizance. He is to appear Nov. 18 in City Court.

ATTICA — Jordan R. Rose, 19, of Batavia was charged with third-degree assault for allegedly assaulting another person Monday, state police said.

He is to appear at a later date in Town Court.

CASTILE — John P. Mann, 30, of Genesee Falls was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, state police said.

He was committed to jail pending an appearance in court.

BATAVIA — Kyle N. Beckford, 19, of Batavia was charged with taking a car without permission, state police said.

He was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and criminal mischief.

BERGEN — Two people face charges after an investigation into stolen property, state police said.

Tia A. Cordwell, 27, of Pulaski and Joseph D. Bouck, 19, of Oswego were charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Cordwell also was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation.

ALABAMA — Mary J. Rebman, 35, of Alden was charged with driving while impaired by drugs after she was stopped at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, state police said.

She is to appear at a later date in Town Court.

WARSAW — Three people were charged with drugged driving during a police checkpoint operation on Route 20A in the village Friday.

State police, village police and Wyoming deputies conducting the checkpoint.

Melissa A. McMorris, 31, of Buffalo, Amadou M. Diakite, 20, of Brooklyn and Matthew A. Durfee, 37, of Warsaw all were charged with driving while impaired by drugs.

The checkpoint had 195 vehicles pass through and police issued 37 other tickets for various violations.

MEDINA — Village police charged the following people during recent weeks:

- Kevin Ryan, 63, of Medina was charged with petit larceny.

- Austin M. Boyer, 23, of Medina was charged with DWI and unsafe start.

- Christopher Parker, 33, of Stafford was charged with aggravated DWI, DWI, unlawful possession of marijuana, following too close, unsafe tires, fail to yield to an emergency vehicle, no seat belt and open container.

- Jakob M. Bishop, 22, of Medina was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration.
