BATAVIA — The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office this morning said someone forcibly entered Dave’s Ice Cream, 3872 W. Main St., Saturday night and tried to enter the cash registers.

At about 10:50 p.m. Saturday, a scanner report was made of a burglary in progress at Dave’s Ice Cream. At 10:53 p.m. Saturday, deputies, city police and state troopers responded and found the door pried open, along with a cash register on the floor inside.

Officers secured the building and it was determined the suspect had fled. The suspect tried to enter cash registers before leaving in what appeared to be a small, white sport-utility vehicle (SUV). The suspect was wearing a black coat, gray hooded sweatshirt, white gloves and a black mask.

The Daily News later obtained surveillance footage from inside of Dave’s, which showed a masked figure moving throughout the business before exiting. After the suspect left the building, a vehicle passed by the drive-thru window, located at the back. The surveillance video is available on The Daily News Facebook page.

The county Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation. Anyone with information on the incident may contact Investigator Christopher Parker or Deputy Jordan Alejandro at (585) 343-5000.
