BATAVIA — Ongoing disputes between neighbors boiled over last week, resulting in a slew of arrests after police found people with knives, bats, Tasers and rocks.
Numerous police units were sent to Hutchins/Lewis Place and State Street late Thursday night for a report of a large fight in progress.
Detective Eric Hill said officers found numerous people fighting, with some threatening people with weapons.
Others were throwing rocks at people and cars.
An investigation revealed the fight started because someone threw a firework at a car, Hill said.
“These disputes have been going on for about a year,” Hill said.
No one was injured. Two cars were damaged.
Police arrested seven people:
n Eric McGill, 37, of Huthins, charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon.
n Delonta Curry, 19, of Rochester was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree riot.
n Hezekiah Burch, 18, Hutchins Place, charged with criminal mischief and riot.
n Louis Mercado, 32, Lewis Place, charged with felony criminal mischief and riot.
n Jasmine Ryder, 34, Lewis Place, charged with riot.
n Lance Mercado Sr., 30, of Lewis Place, charged with riot.
n J’Zon Richardson, 21, Oak Street, charged with riot.
All were released.
Two of those arrested, Richardson and Burch, also were arrested earlier last week after another report of a large fight.
Both were charged with disorderly conduct, along with Andrew L. Kosiorek, 48.
City police thanked the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, the Le Roy Police Department, NYS Parks Police, the City of Batavia Fire Department and Mercy EMS for their assistance at the scene.
“BPD would also like to thank the Genesee County District Attorney’s Office and the citizens of Batavia for their assistance with this matter,” a press release said. “The department would like to encourage the public to report incidents and cooperate with investigations which are happening in their neighborhoods. This will help alleviate problems and hopefully avoid future incidents such as this one.”
