Active COVID-19 cases decrease in GLOW region

ALBION — Active COVID-19 cases have continued a significant rise in Orleans County.

The county reported three active cases as of Aug. 2, according to the Genesee and Orleans County Health Departments COVID dashboard.

That number had risen to 64 active cases as of Aug. 26. And one week later, as of Thursday, the number was 96.

The Orleans County increase was the sharpest over the past month for the three counties included in the COVID dashboard. In comparison, Genesee County reported seven active cases on Aug. 2, which had increased to 70 as of Thursday, but was continuing a week-long downward trend.

Wyoming County reported five active cases on Aug. 2, which had increased to 26 as of Thursday.

Area health officials continue to recommend people take precautions and get vaccinated if they haven’t already.

Here’s a county-by-county look at the most recent COVID-19 data:

n Genesee County — From Monday to Thursday, Genesee County is reporting 33 new positive cases for a total of 5,648.

The individuals are under the age of 20 and in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. Thirteen of the 70 current active cases are hospitalized.

There are 38 new recoveries for a total of 4,985.

Genesee County reports a total of 124 deaths.

A total of 31,174 people, or 54.2 percent of county residents, had received at least one vaccine dose as of Thursday, according to the New York state vaccine dashboard. The number of people who have completed the series was 28,760.

The county’s seven-day rolling average of positives was 5.3 percent.

n Orleans County — From Monday to Thursday, Orleans County is reporting 60 new cases for a total of 3,364 positive cases.

The individuals are under the age of 20 and in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. Four of the 96 current active cases are hospitalized.

There are 28 new recoveries for a total of 2,872. Orleans County has 83 total deaths.

A total of 19,875 people, or 48.9 percent of county residents, had received at least one vaccine dose as of Thursday, according to the New York state vaccine dashboard. The number of people who have completed the series was 18,445.

The county’s seven-day rolling average of positives was 6.2 percent.

n Wyoming County — Twenty-six active cases were reported, with a total of 2,888 cases since the pandemic began, according to county data.

The number of recoveries is 2,808. There are 54 deaths.

A total of 19,492 people, or 48.6 percent of county residents, had received at least one vaccine dose as of Thursday, according to the New York state vaccine dashboard. The number of people who have completed the series was 18,129.

The county’s seven-day rolling average of positives was 2.6 percent.

n Livingston County — A total of 34,499 people, or 54.6 percent of county residents, had received at least one vaccine dose as of Tuesday, according to the New York state vaccine dashboard. The number of people who have completed the series was 32,473.

A total of 62.4 percent of the county’s population of those at least 18 years old had been vaccinated.
