COVID numbers remain low across region

BATAVIA — The rate of new COVID-19 cases is reaching a trickle in the GLOW region.

Three new cases were reported Friday in Livingston County. A total of 11 new cases were reported over a three-day period in Genesee and Orleans counties.

And although county data wasn’t available Friday, the state’s COVID-19 dashboard showed one positive test in Wyoming County.

The biggest improvement was arguably seen in Orleans County, which saw its number of active cases decrease to 11 on Friday. That compares to 45 active cases this past Tuesday.

A total of 36 active cases were reported in Genesee, Orleans and Livingston counties, with no numbers immediately available for Wyoming County.

Here’s a county-by-county look at the data:

n Genesee and Orleans — Genesee County reported 11 new cases of COVID-19 since Tuesday, for a total of 5,323 cases. The new positives were 19 or younger, and in their 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s.

Among the 11 active cases, three people were hospitalized.

There were also 15 new recoveries reported, for a total of 4,766 recoveries, according to health department data.

New York state data indicated Tuesday that 27,173 or 47.2 percent of Genesee County residents have received at least one vaccine dose; 23,930 residents have completed the vaccine series, according to the state’s COVID-19 vaccine tracker

The county’s seven-day rolling average of positive cases was 0.5 percent, according to the state Department of Health.

Orleans County reported seven new cases for a total of 3,092 cases as of Friday. The new positives were 19 or younger, and in their 20s, 30s, 50s, 60s and 70s.

Of the county’s 11 active cases, none are hospitalized.

Orleans County also reported a total of 2,687 recoveries.

In Orleans County on Tuesday, 17,140 residents, or 42.2 percent of county residents, have received at least one vaccine dose; 14,756 residents have completed the vaccine series, according to the state’s COVID-19 vaccine tracker.

The county’s seven-day rolling average of positive cases was 0.5 percent, according to state data.

New York state reports a total of 124 COVID-19-related deaths in Genesee County and 83 deaths in Orleans County, representing no change.

n Livingston County — Three new COVID-19 cases were reported Friday, bringing total number of COVID-19 cases in Livingston County to 4,694.

There are 14 active cases, down four from Wednesday. Of those cases, one is hospitalized and in intensive care.

Active cases include three each in Dansville and Geneseo; two each in Avon and Mount Morris; and single cases in Nunda, Piffard, a Le Roy zip code in Livingston County, and a Wayland zip code in Livingston County.

A total of 30,369 residents, or 48% of county residents, have received at least one vaccine dose, while 26,535 residents have completed the vaccine series, according to the state’s COVID-19 vaccine tracker.

Livingston County has administered 140,988 tests for COVID-19 among county residents. The results include 136,294 negative results, according to the county’s COVID-19 tracking map. The infection rate among those tested is 3.33%.

The seven-day rolling average of positives is 0.8% percent, according to state data.

n Wyoming County — A total of 354 people were tested Friday, according to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard. One person tested positive.

In Wyoming County on Thursday, 17,258 residents, or 43.1 percent of county residents, have received at least one vaccine dose; 15,163 residents have completed the vaccine series, according to the state’s COVID-19 vaccine tracker.

The county’s seven-day rolling average of positive cases was 0.4 percent, according to state data.
