Two counties report COVID-19 deaths

ALBION — Orleans County reported one of the worst COVID-19 statistics statewide on Thursday.

The county’s seven-day rolling average of positive tests topped the state at 15.7 percent, according to state data. Wyoming and Lewis counties were tied for third at 14.2 percent, while Genesee County was fourth at 13.9 percent.

Livingston County’s seven-day rolling average was relatively lower at 10.6 percent. But each of those figures dwarfed the state average, which itself increased to 4.9 percent.

Wayne County ranked second statewide at 14.7 percent.

In the meantime, Wyoming County reported three COVID-19 related deaths over the previous week on Thursday. That brings its total to six such deaths over the previous three weeks.

Officials in Wyoming County continue to urge people to get vaccinations if they haven’t done so, saying a choice to do otherwise leaves them, and the people around them, at risk. They also recommend social distancing, masks and handwashing in general.
