Edith was born on June 6, 1926 in Oran, Algeria, the daughter of the late Ernest and Amelia (Monedaro) Polo. She is predeceased by her husband, Harry Pappalardo, and son-in-law, Vincent D. Bianchi.

During World War II, she met the love of her life, Harry Pappalardo, who was stationed in North Africa during the war. They married Nov. 15, 1943.
