NORTH JAVA — Elaine Ruth Mattia, age 83, formerly of North Java, passed away, Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw. Elaine was born in Plattsburg, N.Y., June 23, 1937, a daughter of the late Harvey and Ruth Blair Bridges. She graduated from Peru High School in Peru, N.Y., in 1955 and spent the majority of her life in North Java raising her family. Elaine moved to Wethersfield in 2012 but remained a longtime member of Java Village First Congregational Church. A terrific homemaker, Elaine was dedicated to her family and grandchildren. She served as a 4H Leader for 40years helping to shape and support the children of our agricultural community.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Fuzzy” Mattia Jr. in 2016; 2 sons, Mark and John Mattia; a sister, Bonny Calmes; 3 brothers, Donald, Kenneth, Frederick Bridges; and a son in-law, Daniel “Booner” Lamkin.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Cyndy Mattia of Warrenton, Va., Debby Lamkin of Bennington, Hiedi (Timothy) Librock of Darien; a sister, Anne (Norman) Torrance of Peru, N.Y.; a brother, Craig (Debbie) Bridges of Orchard Park; 8 grandchildren, Chelsea Bakos, Kevin (Taylor) Mullen, Lauryn Lamkin, Tayla and Cyara Mattia, Seth, Ethan, and Wyatt Librock; a great-granddaughter, Paisley Mullen; and several nieces and nephews survive.
A time of calling and gathering will be held from 1-2 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. memorial service, Saturday, March 6, 2021, at the Java Village First Congregational Church with Pastor Ken Kinton as officiant. Burial will be conducted in the Quaker Settlement Cemetery, Orangeville in the Spring. Weeks Funeral Home, 123 N. Main Street, Warsaw, has arrangements.
