Fran (Brasky) Oakes

Frances Agnes (Brasky) Oakes, 84, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at her residence in Fredericksburg, Va.

She leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her family and friends, who were always entertained by her colorful language and crooked middle finger. She truly brought the life to the party.

Fran was born on Sept. 16, 1937, in Batavia, N.Y. She married her husband of 60 years at 18 years old and had 3 children. Later in life, Fran retired after serving more than 20 years as a Government Service employee at Camp Lejeune, N.C. In her retirement years, she and her husband Herb were active in the Antique Automobile Club of America. Fran was a loving person that never met a stranger and spoke her mind. She was a devoted grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma that enjoyed soaking up moments with her family around her swimming pool. Fran loved reading, chocolates, and a glass of White Zinfandel.

Fran is survived by her daughter, Sharon Swinson of Morganton, N.C.; two sons, Herb and wife Gail of Stafford, Va., and Joe Oakes of Maysville, N.C; nine grandchildren, Christy, Brandy, Julie and husband Sean, Tracy and husband Kenny, Jamie and husband Andrew, Rachael, Ryan and wife Desiray, Bobby and wife Jasmine, and Kristi and husband Timmy; seven great-grandchildren, Berkley, Michael, Brayleigh, Bobby Jr, Oakely, Elijah and Declan; two great-great-grandchildren, Bryson and River; and several nieces and nephews.

Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Herb of Jacksonville, N.C.; her parents, Myron and Rose Brasky of Batavia, N.Y.; her sister, Dee Mitchell of Batavia, N.Y., her sister, Eleanor Ferrucci of Fresno, Calif.; and her brother, Myron Brasky of Batavia, N.Y.

A memorial service is being planned by the family. Details will be released at a later date.
