Margaret (Peg) Meyer, of Corfu, passed peacefully on Jan. 16, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Palm Harbor, Florida. Margaret was born on March 27, 1926 to Anna (Pundt) and Edward O’Neil of Batavia. She was the second oldest of twelve children. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome P. Meyer and her son, Jerome P. Meyer II.

Margaret began working as a cashier from the age of sixteen at the A&P store in Batavia, New York. In her later years, Margaret became a dietary aide at the Erie County Home and Infirmary. She remained active after retirement by caring for other elderly friends and volunteering in the community.

A lifelong Catholic, Margaret was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Corfu, New York. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her delicious, homemade pies. Margaret also loved gardening and volunteering for various organizations including the Salvation Army and the Corfu Volunteer Fire Department.

Margaret is survived by four children, Ann Meyer, Joan (Jerry) Austin, Jean (Edward) Kelly, and Rita (Jeffrey) Fischer, four grandchildren, Thomas Hayn, Brian Hayn, Rachel Fischer and Jeffrey Fischer. Two sisters, Ann (Jack) Smith and Marcella (Anthony) Saracini, and three brothers, Mike O’Neil, Charles O’Neil and Edward O’Neil Jr. also survive along with several nieces and nephews.

Having led an exercise class for seniors at the Corfu Presbyterian Church for many years, Margaret will be remembered for her boundless energy and kindness toward all. Her beloved grandchildren, Rachel and Jeffrey Fischer were also an important part of her life.

A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Jan. 30, 11 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe, 18 W. Main St., Corfu, New York. There will be no calling hours.
