Editor:

The citizens of Batavia turned out in numbers to honor and remember our veterans. After a year of COVID restrictions, sickness, mask wearing and isolation it was great to observe the community support and participation. Our community has what it takes. Thank you, Batavia.

It was an honor to have our parade grand marshal, WWII Army veteran Mr. Don Lewis, leading us down Main Street. Seventy-six years ago, Mr. Lewis was serving his country so that we could have the freedom we enjoy today. Thank you Mr. Lewis for your service and for honoring us as Grand Marshal.

On behalf of the city of Batavia, thank you to all the groups and individuals that have volunteered their time and efforts to participate in the Memorial Day Parade. Our gratitude to Jim and Jay Lewis, and Duane Preston for all their efforts serving as parade marshals.

A special recognition to the Veterans Events Committee for its efforts hosting the many memorial services throughout the county and the solemn ceremony at the Jerome Center. It was with great sadness that we heard the names of 182 of our local veterans read that passed away in the last 12 months

We salute all our veterans, first responders, and health care workers for all their efforts and service. We honor and remember all those that gave their life in the service of our country.

Thank you to all the City employees and staff for your efforts in making this event a success.
