A selection of stories from the 2022 Ghost Tales contest hosted by The Daily News.
As you read, you’ll see stories inspired by local history and landmarks such as the Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council which is reputed to be haunted with patrons reporting smelling the whiff cigar smoke only to turn to see nothing but an indentation on a tavern chair. Others showcase the work of adept storytellers who build suspense throughout their tales as the hairs rise on the back of your neck – or chills descend the spine - enroute to a surprise twist at the end.
“Ghost Tales” is open to children ages 11 to 18 years old in Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming counties.
Stories had a 1,000 word limit. Some writers submitted art to accompany their stories. While other students submitted their own artwork.
