BATAVIA — To celebrate 100 years protecting the community, the Troop A office is opening its doors for the community.
From 1-4 p.m. this Saturday, the New York State Police Troop A headquarters will be open to the public to celebrate the troop’s 100th year in existence.
“What we’re trying to show is what the State Police is about,” Troop A Commander Steve Nigrelli said. “It also gives us an opportunity to thank the public for being such staunch supporters of State Police right here in Batavia.”
There will be activities for all ages at the open house. Nigrelli said there will be historical displays dating back to 1917 that highlight the troop; a helicopter rescue demonstration; robot demonstrations; K-9 demonstrations; defensive tactics demonstrations; interactive DWI goggles with pedal cars; classic State Police vehicles and current NYSP patrol vehicles; NYSP Motorcycles Unit and motorcycle safety education; a firearms safety display; and the troop’s new centennial horse unit will be on display, among other activities.
Aviation and Special Operations Response Team shows will start at 2 p.m.
Food and refreshments will be available from 1-2 p.m.
“It’s a fun event for the public, to be honest with you,” Nigrelli said.
The Troop A headquarters is located at 4525 W. Saile Drive in Batavia, N.Y.
“We’re very proud that Batavia is one of the host communities for 100 years,” Nigrelli said. “The community of Batavia through today has welcomed the state police with open arms and really are great neighbors.”
