ATTICA — What was supposed to be a celebration of the 63rd year of the Attica Rodeo, instead will be another cancellation due to the coronavirus officials said Wednesday morning.

The rodeo was scheduled to start Thursday, Aug. 6 and run through Saturday, Aug. 8.

The Attica Rodeo and Show Association includes events such as bull riding, cattle penning, barrel racing, horse shows, clinics, clowns and more.

Attica Rodeo President Tom Ball said the decision to cancel the rodeo came Tuesday night.

“I am more heartbroken than disappointed,” Ball said. “We all look forward to this event annually. It is what it is.”

Ball mentioned that his committee waited as long as they possibly could before finally pulling the plug.

“In so many words this was a state decision,” he said.

Ball is hopeful next year’s rodeo will go on without any issues.

“We are looking to go full guns next year and go even bigger and better,” Ball said. “That is providing all this covid stuff finally goes away and doesn’t play a factor.”
