BATAVIA — Batavia Girls Fastpitch Softball is excited for the season to finally begin.

The Stingers returned back to action this week and will have a 12-game season for each of their three teams starting games Aug. 3 and running through Sept. 3.

Currently, the Stingers have one 10U, 1 12U and 16U team participating in fastpitch softball.

Practices and home games are all held at Lions Park.

The coaches for 10U are Jill Yasses and Krystal Forsyth.

Batavia’s 12U squad is coached by Stan Kaus and Brian Sorochty.

The 16U team is coached by Kennedy Lampart, a former GCC softball player, and Otis Thomas, the varsity softball coach at Notre Dame.

The 16U team is scheduled to have their first practice this Tuesday, July 14 from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

“All of our coaches, players, parents and board members are thrilled that baseball and softball are allowed to be played in NYS effective July 6,” Batavia Girls Softball Fastpitch President Melissa Landers said. “Our board has worked hard over the past few weeks developing a safety plan and doing everything we can to make sure that fastpitch softball can be played this summer on our new infield at Lions Park. We are very excited to start our 12-game schedule at the beginning of August. So many things have been taken away from our youth due to the pandemic. It is nice that the kids will be able to play a sport that they enjoy and get to see their friends at the same time.”
