The Batavia/Attica wrestling team hasn’t had much time to rest this week. The Blue Devils began the week on Wednesday with a one-point loss to Pal-Mac, returned the next day to beat Lyndonville by a dozen and then had one day to regroup before moving past the visiting Webster Thomas Titans, 35-33 on Saturday afternoon. The win for B/A avenged a 42-41 loss to the Titans last year.

“They have a talented group that wrestled hard and pushed our guys,” said Blue Devils head coach Rick Stewart. “Once again our core veterans were able to score enough points to preserve the win.“

Defending sectional champions, Casper Stewart and Travis Kauffman, each provided critical wins against the Titans. Stewart made quick work of WT’s Chase Gottstein at 138 pounds, winning by pin in 1:37, while Kauffman earned a technical fall, 15-0, over WT’s Dylan Schmitt at 145 pounds.

“They both have done an excellent job of getting the team bonus points in duals,” said Coach Stewart of Kauffman and Stewart. “Sectionals titles are definitely a goal for them this year.”

Batavia/Attica’s Kaden Marucci stuck Dylan English in 1:01 at 160 pounds and Wyatt Kauffman dropped WT’s Nate Coon in 3:33 at 189 pounds.

For the Titans, Aiden Smith (118 pounds), Jake Mendola (126 pounds), Cole Badtrich (132 pounds), Owen Dalberth (152 pounds), Marlie English (172 pounds) and Dominic Blekot (215 pounds) each won their respective matches.

Batavia/Attica is now 3-1 and looks ahead to a matchup with Hilton on Tuesday.
