LYNDONVILLE — Coming off of a tough, one-point loss to Pal-Mac on Wednesday, Batavia/Attica head coach Rick Stewart’s bunch had little time to dwell on their defeat. The Blue Devils strapped it right back up against Lynondville on Thursday and worked their way to an eight-point win over the Tigers, 42-34.
“Our veterans needed to do their jobs tonight and they did,” said Stewart.
Highlighting B/A’s win were five Devils who recorded a win by pin. The quickest Batavia grappler to stick his opponent was 285-pounder Thomas McCabe, who did so in just 59 seconds against the Tigers Sam Doolan. Travis Kauffman stuck Lyndonville’s Dillon Burt-Hodgins at 145 pounds, and 138-pounder Casper Stewart dropped Lyndonville’s Noah Neff in 1:45. Tyler Budzinack (152 lbs-3:48) and Kaden Marucci (160 lbs-2:18) also pinned their opponent.
“It was a very competitive match that came right down to the end,” said Stewart. “We had to make some lineup decisions on the fly to get some favorable matchups.”
Lyndonville’s Conner Bell pinned Batavia/Attica’s Tom Green in 1:25, while Braden Munn (132 lbs-3:53) and Maddox Stirk (189 lbs-3:00) also stuck their opponent in the loss. The Tigers’ Rodney Davis earned a major decision over Batavia/Attica’s Sasha Childs, 12-2.
The Blue Devils are now 2-1.
