UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones wasn’t pleased during an encounter with a pair of protesters on Sunday night in Albuquerque, N.M., and promptly confiscated their spray paint cans.
Jones posted a video to his Instagram account in which he is shown approaching two young men in a crosswalk. He quickly takes away the spray can from the first man and then is repeatedly heard saying “give me the spray can” to the second person before that man gives up the can.
Jones, who lives in Albuquerque, is unhappy with the unrest and looting in the city. The protests stem from the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25.
Floyd, a black man, died after white officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck for several minutes in an incident caught on cell phone cameras.
“Is this (expletive) even about George Floyd anymore?!?” Jones wrote on the account. “Why the (expletive) are you punk (expletive) teenagers destroying our cities!?? As a young black man trust me I’m frustrated as well but this is not the way, we are starting to make a bad situation worse.
“If you really got love for your city (505), protect your (expletive). All you old heads need to speak up, call your young family members and tell them to come home tonight.”
The 505 Jones was referring to is the area code of Albuquerque.
