ATTICA — The Village of Attica on Saturday planted four trees in the Attica Village Park for Arbor Day.
Nancy Haas, an arborist, said the trees are being planted to replace the current sugar maples in the park and provide shade for the playground and beautify the park.
The Lions Club is planning to have memorial trees planted in a few years.
In 2018, Attica took an inventory of the entire village, and while doing so evaluated tree health. While doing so 140 new planting spots were identified. The village committed to planting 20 trees a year to fill the spaces. The Department of Environmental Conservation awarded Attica a $40,000 grant to remove trees and to go through tree training.
