Batavia man faces new child rape charges


BATAVIA — An extensive investigation has resulted in a 25-count indictment filed against a Batavia man accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting four children.

The accusations against Melvin A. Huntley, 40, of Wilkinson Road date back to 2012 and continue through 2021 when he was first arrested.

The indictment charges Huntley with repeated acts of rape and sexual abuse with four children, all under 17 and some under age 11.

Huntley was first charged on July 8 after a Genesee County Sheriff’s Department investigation in regards to one victim.

The investigation continued, resulting in more charges filed against Huntley in September involving three more victims. The grand jury added more counts.

The charges against Huntley:

n 10 counts of first-degree sexual abuse for forcibly abusing children in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

n Two counts of first-degree rape, one count of second-degree rape and four counts of third-degree rapes, the latest coming in June 2021, a month before he was arrested.

n One count of second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child for repeated sexual attacks from 2013 through July 2021.

n Four counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

n Three counts of predatory sexual assault against a child for acts committed between 2012 to 2021.

Those charges are Class A1 felonies punishable by up to 25 years to life in prison.

Huntley, who remains in Genesee County Jail, is scheduled to be arraigned today in Genesee County Court.
