BYRON - A 2013 graduate of Elba Central School was killed when his car left the road and slammed into a barn on Chapell Road Saturday night, Genesee County sheriff’s deputies said.
Dustin M. Nemec, 26, was driving a 2020 Volkswagen east on Chapell Road just after 6 p.m. when he was unable to negotiate a curve and went off the north shoulder of the road.
His car hit a tree and then a barn.
Nemec was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person in the car.
Nemec, a son of Edward and Karen Nemec of Elba, was a 2013 graduate of Elba, where he excelled at tennis and participated in swimming, concert and jazz bands.
He graduated in the top 10 in his class and received numerous awards, including being a member of National Honor Society. He earned the Bausch and Lomb Science Award, was a 2013 Genesee Community College Scholar Award Semi-Finalist and served as the senior class vice president.
He graduated cum laude from the state University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences with a doctorate of pharmacy in May 2020 and worked as a pharmacist for Tops Friendly Markets.
