Brendan McDonough/Livingston County News Volunteers wait to distribute 300 boxes of non-perishable, emergency food during a distribution event at Dansville Central School that was organized by Livingston County and Foodlink. An additional event at the school is scheduled for April 29.

GENESEO – Foodlink, a regional food bank serving a 10-county region that includes Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming counties, will host several food distribution events in the GLOW as part of an ongoing response to the COVID-19 crisis.

A 25-pound box of non-perishable, emergency food items will be distributed at each event.

Events are scheduled April 22 at Northgate Church, Batavia; April 23 at Wyoming County CAP, Perry; April 27 in Le Roy at the Mill Street parking lot; April 29 at Dansville Central School, Dansville; May 1 at Main Street Store, Albion, and also Steel and O’Brien Manufacturing parking lot, Arcade; and May 2 at Geneseo Central School, Geneseo.

Events are open to residents of the county in which the event is taking place. Some of the events require pre-registration.

In Livingston County, the upcoming Dansville and Geneseo events follow similar drive-thru distribution events this month in which 600 boxes of food were distribution. Registration for those events were filled less than 24 hours after the events were announced.

“Certainly it is our hope that people who missed out on the last one will be able to register and get food during this distribution,” said Foodlink Communications Manager Mark Dwyer.

Dwyer said the pre-registration helped events go smoothly.

The events involve no-touch distribution. Proper social distancing will be maintained at all times in order to protect the health and safety of registrants and volunteers.

There will be no walk-ups accepted. Only pre-registered households in vehicles will be served.

Dwyer said more food distribution event are being planned.

“At this point we will say for certain that we will be doing these through May,” Dwyer said. “I can not say for certain what will happen after that but it is our plan to continue these drive up sites through May.”
