BATAVIA — A parolee has been indicted on charges that he strangled a woman to unconsciousness and attacked her with a boot.
Wade J. Murphy, 48, of Clarendon is charged with second-degree strangulation, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree assault and attempted second-degree assault in a Genesee County grand jury indictment filed in County Court.
Murphy is accused of attacking the woman while at a residence in Oakfield on July 12.
Murphy was on parole at the time of his arrest. His parole expired Feb. 19.
He was convicted of felony DWI and burglary in 2012 in Orleans County and sentenced to four-to-five years in prison.
He violated parole after his release and was returned to prison in 2018.
He was released to parole April 30, 2020, according to state Department of Corrections.
n Arthur J. Brown Jr., 44, of Le Roy is charged with grand larceny for allegedly stealing a cash app belonging to another person.
Brown also was indicted in February and charged with menacing a police officer, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, criminal possession of a controlled substance, obstructing governmental administration and driving while impaired by drugs.
Brown was stopped on Route 33 on Sept. 19 and ran from police.
He is accused of pulling out a handgun as a deputy approached and then fleeing into a cornfield. Numerous agencies arrived to search after deputies heard what they believed were gunshots. The shots were actually cannons used to scare wildlife from crops.
Brown was found five hours later near Wesbrook Road.
n Brennan M. Dean, 20, of Bolivar, Allegany County, is charged with second-degree assault for assaulting a corrections officer at Genesee County Jail.
Dean was in jail on a second-degree manslaughter charge. He was arrested in November and charged with being high on drugs when he crashed his car in Pavilion, killing a passenger. The car was stolen, police said at the time.
