JAVA — An Orchard Park man was pronounced dead at 8:30 a.m. today after being found in a pond at Jellystone Campground.
The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, the Wyoming County Emergency Services and the North Java Fire Department were dispatched to a report of a missing adult male at the campground.
After an extensive search of the property, Michael R. Nicholoff, 41, of East Quaker Street, Orchard Park was found by water rescue teams and pronounced dead.
“There is no foul play suspected at this time. Nicholoff was transported to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy,” the county Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
Assistant Chief Doug George led the North Java Fire Department. Other agencies assisting with the search and recovery were the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Castile Water Rescue Team (made of Silver Springs, Gainesville, Perry, and Pike, Alden Fire Department Under Water Rescue Team, and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Under Water Rescue Team.
“The staff and management at Jellystone Park were helpful and cooperative in assisting during this rescue effort,” the county Sheriff’s Office said.
