KNOWLESVILLE — The 2020 Orleans County 4-H Fair has been canceled.
Although there are many reasons for the decision, health and safety were at the forefront, said Executive Director Robert Batt of the Orleans County Cornell Cooperative Extension.
“This year would have been the 73rd year of the fair, and for all of us it is a time to see friends and connect with each other,” he said. “Our 4-Hers and volunteers will miss time spent together, showcasing a year’s worth of work, and forming lifelong memories. For the businesses that participate it’s a chance to connect with people, and for some the fair and event season is their life and their passion. We will be working hard to offer virtual and other options for our youth to exhibit in the coming weeks.”
Orleans is among the last fairs in the area to announce its cancellation. The Wyoming and Genesee county fairs made their cancellations public on Wednesday, while the Hemlock Fair in Livingston County also won’t take place this year.
The Erie County Fair has likewise canceled this year’s event.
