ELBA - State police have identified the suspect in Wednesday’s stabbing at an Oliver’s Candies factory behind Sweet Life Country Store on South Main Street.

Colleen L. Nelson, 49, of the town of Alabama, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Police said Nelson came up from behind another employee and began to stab him with what police described as a large knife.

The man, 59, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was not identified.

Nelson was arraigned and committed to jail without bail.

Police did not give any details as to why Nelson allegedly stabbed her co-worker.

Troopers responded to the scene about 1:30 p.m. after a report of a stabbing.

The Genesee County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
