BRIAN QUINN/DAILY NEWS Police are in the preliminary stages of their investigation into this afternoon’s shooting outside 7-Eleven on East Main Street.

BATAVIA — Police are investigating a shooting this afternoon outside 7-Eleven, 505 E. Main St, near the corner of East Main and Elm streets. Two people were shot, police say, with a male victim refusing transport to the hospital and a female taken to United Memorial Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

“We were initially called to this area for the reporting of a person that was shot outside of 7-Eleven. We did identify two victims in the area here of apparent gunshot wounds,” said Sgt. Mitchell Cowen. “We don’t believe there would be any threat to the public at this point in time. It does look like it was probably a targeted event. We have no reason to believe that this is any ongoing threat.”
